The Center for Media Justice, formerly the Youth Media Council, has transitioned from a regionally focused and primarily responsive program design to an integrated program that reaches a national scope, works in key sectors, has clear and measurable outcomes, and aligns with our intention to build a strategic, collaborative, and intergenerational movement through effective media change.

The Echo Communications Program:

Communications for Racial Justice and Youth Rights

Through this program, the CMJ helps alliances in critical justice sectors build their communications strategy and influence to shift public debate and advance their justice goals. We offer:

•    Affordable, participatory PR 

•    Media strategy, planning, research

     and coaching services

•    A web-based media resource center and

     California press database

The GMAP Program:

A Media Justice Movement for A New Media System

Through our Grassroots Media Activism Program (G-MAP), the CMJ is building a powerful grassroots movement to transform the media system in and beyond the Bay Area.  Become part of the movement:

Individuals - Join the Media Justice Action Team The A-Team is a membership of historically disenfranchised media   audiences and producers taking action for media accountability in the Bay Area. 

Organizations - Join the Media Action Grassroots Network (MAG-Net) MAG-Net is a national alliance of social justice, media activist, research and policy groups that coordinates regional media organizing for national impact.

The Si, Se Puede Program:

A New Generation of Media Leaders

Through our Si, Se Puede (Yes, We Can) Program, the CMJ is developing a new generation of grassroots organizers as skilled media spokespeople, strategists, and activists.  We offer:

•    Introductory and advanced media skills workshops

•    An annual media leadership institute for organizers

•    Creative and sophisticated pop-ed curriculum

•    Online media tools and resources
